A momentous event was celebrated in Red Deer on June 12, 2024. The vibrant Filipino Community proudly wore their barongs, stood up straight with hands on their hearts as they sang their Philippine National Anthem with so much pride and love.
Celebrating the 126th Philippine Independence Day and taking part with other hundreds of thousands of Filipinos all across Canada in Celebrating Filipino Heritage Month. It was indeed a milestone here in Red Deer as this was the first of its event in the Filipino Community.
Although the weather was not too accommodating, the organizers of the event headed by GKM Events Chris Rod together with Levigate Group’s Mark Cruz, Link Switch One’s Arthur Amaro, Integration Consulting Services Gie Maglinao and Designs By Jerwin Jerwin Suratos were able to move it inside The Flex Event Place.
Grace Mane, Vocal Coach and Lead Singer for the 10:30 Showband sang with conviction the Philippine National Anthem together with over 60 Filipino’s in attendance.
The event was well attended with MLA Red Deer South Jason Stephan, Mayor Ken Johnston, Councillor Bruce Buruma, Councillor Chad Krahn with Chief of Staff Darren Kuz and Rachelle Sauvageau, Senior Executive Assistant to the Mayor and Council.
Filipino Canadian Members of the Royal Canadian Mountain Police (RCMP) attended the event and were awarded Certificate of Appreciation headed by the RCMP Ambassador for the Filipino Canadian Community Cst Joel Gualberto from Bonnyville AB. The rest in attendance were.

Also attended the event were Daria Zmiyiwsky, President Black Press Media and Publisher for the Red Deer Advocate together with Richard Williams and Dr. Mason Kim, owner of Blackfalds Smiles & Family Dentistry.
