RED DEER FESTIVAL OF THE PERFORMING ARTS 60TH ANNIVERSARY!!

Between April 15-25, more than 1500 developing artists participated in the 60th Anniversary edition of the Red Deer Festival of the Performing Arts. Supported by the City of Red Deer, local institutions, service clubs, and countless tireless volunteers, an estimated 200 000 artists have participated in the Festival over the course of the past six decades. From its humble beginnings by our founding sponsor, the Kiwanis Club of Red Deer, it has grown to become one of the most significant annual cultural events in the central Alberta region.

Year after year, the Festival has proven that Central Alberta is rich with performing arts talent. Participants in the Festival represent a wide range of disciplines, from voice, musical theater and guitar to piano, band, and string instruments. In addition to providing an opportunity to share their craft with each other, each participant receives feedback from a highly skilled specialist in their discipline. Many promising artists receive awards, which are made possible by generous donors, and some go on to represent Red Deer in provincial and Western Canadian performing arts festivals.

The Festival concludes with a Showcase Concert which features many of the finest performers in the event as chosen by the adjudicators. A large crowd of Festival supporters attended the 60th Anniversary Showcase Concert and reception at Red Deer Polytechnic Mainstage on May 26. The 2024 Showcase Concert was filmed by Hot Shoe Studio and is available for viewing on the Festival’s website (www.rdfpa.ca).

Thank you to all of the past and present participants, teachers, families, donors, and volunteers that joined in the celebration this year! If you are interested in helping support the Festival as it begins its journey towards the next milestone, information regarding donations and/or volunteering are available on the Festival’s website
