Rebecca Smith
Red Deer’s Rebecca Smith will compete in her second consecutive Olympic Games this summer in Paris, France after recently qualifying at the Canadian Olympic Trials in Toronto. The swimmer will compete in the women’s 4X100 metre freestyle relay, the same event she won the silver medal in at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
Hadley Guenther and Riley Easton
Hunting Hills has awarded their Senior athletes of the year. This fall Hadley will be staying close to home to get her degree in education at Red Deer Polytechnic while competing for the Queens’ cross-country and indoor track team. In July Riley will be joining the Okanagan Sun Football Club to play defensive back.

This is Harrison Grants first-year in the sport of track & field. Harrison placed first in the 400m and 800m at the Central Alberta zone championships on May 29th. It was there that he broke the 30-year-old 800m record which was held by Ray Sully 2:05.22 in a time of 2:04.80.

The Notre Dame Cougars senior girl’s rugby team were named Tier I central zone champions last Wednesday and will represent Red Deer at the Alberta Schools Athletic Association (ASAA) 15s Tier I and II provincial championships in Red Deer from June 7-8.
